Christian Dior: Bright Eyes

WITH the weather having taken a definite turn for the worse, the sparkly rainbow eyes we saw at Christian Dior's spring/summer 2013 show have never looked more appealing."[We created] a Techno Butterfly look that draws attention to the eyes with intense geometric colours, studded with 'bursts' of Swarovski crystals in matching or contrasting shades," said make-up maestro Pat McGrath, who realised the look at the show.McGrath and her team began by applying Diorshow eye shadow in either fuchsia, orange, violet, blue or green across models' eye lids, before tracing eye liner along the lashes. It was then that the crystal application began in earnest, with a row glued over the liner and further crystals scattered across the lids.

"Colourful, bold and exciting make-up - that's what Topshop's all about," said Topshop make-up artist Hannah Murray of the brilliantly blue "elongated almond" eyes she created backstage at the Topshop Unique show today (seen in the exclusive video below, featuring Jourdan Dunn, Rosie Tapner and Cara Delevingne). "It's a bit Brit pop, a bit Eighties, a bit New Wave with an urban edge. We've done a green base with a pale blue eye shadow pressed on top, so it's as bold as possible. And the skin is very fresh. The whole look should be as if the girls have done it themselves - nothing too 'done' - and very British." Models' nails were painted in Topshop's bold red Lacquered shade.
Fancy trying the look yourself? We can reveal that the key Swarovski crystal colours used were Capri Blue, Jacinth, Indian Pink, Aurore and Chrysolite. Just remember to keep the rest of the look simple - McGrath left lashes, brows and lips natural - to allow the eyes to really stand out.
